What can I improve?
Houdon head
I am submitting my first study for critique. This is a one-hour drawing from a 3D cast of the Houdon head, done with HB pencil on paper.
I would like guidance on what fundamental I should focus on improving next, and which exercises you would recommend?
I have noticed an issue in my process. After establishing the general form, silhouette, and separating light and shadow, I tend to switch into copying light and dark shapes without fully understanding the underlying form.
I am particularly interested in approaches inspired by George Bridgman, focusing on simplifying the head into primitive forms that follow gesture and rhythm. I also want to better understand how to handle hard and soft edges, especially in core shadows and cast shadows.
