Hey there! Lovely portrait! :D Think about painting the shadow graphic shapes first (as you ca see the example on the top left). IMO, that's the best way to divide light from shadow and group your values. From there, you can start to sculpt the drawing by painting your midtone, bounce light, etc. Keep it up! :D

Late post, fell asleep after got back from vacation. I drew these three from references to sharpen my visual library. Probably as much as i needed before hopping into drawing from imagination. To me, there's a lot room for improvements, because these drawing still not great. If you have any advices, truly i'd be grateful to hear it. Ignore the top left, its from yesterday :)
