A neat trick you can try is to draw the hands first in the place that you want them, then the object if they're holding one (This especially helps if they're hold it with both hands) And THEN you draw the arm. Another tip is that, when the arm is at rest, the elbows reach at about the waist and the wrists reach at about the crotch. Also, the forearm and upper arm are the same length. So when the arms are in different positions, imagine how long they would be if they were at rest.
