First of all you have a really good base here. The issues I see are simply with values and some texture. Both of these are needed for true realism. That dark darks at the bottom of your apple should be almost the same as the cast shadow on the table before that shadow spreads out. Then, there needs to be a gradual lightening from that dark into the dark side of the apple. More values from dark to light. Then as you go towards the light there should be some separation at the center of the apple as it is round, so as it starts to turn towards the light it then gets lighter into a brighter highlight. The value scale needs to have enough values in it to allow for the bright highlight, the lighter side of the apple, the midtone of the apple and then the shadow side of the apple. If you look at your apple, it’s mostly 1 flat grey, and then 1 highlight and one shadow. Then after you get your values correct, add some texture into those values. Meaning broaden those values to allow for some darker and lighter texture values inside of the light values and the dark values. My apple has a definite lighter side with darker texture in it, and a definite darker side of the apple with its own darker and lighter texture in it. That is simply more values in the darks and lights. Take your apple and try to add at least 3 more darks that go from the darkest shadow to that mid tone dark. And do the same for the light side of the apple. Hope this makes sense and helps. | Artwod Feedback
