I like your ideas here, I think it just needs a couple of thing. First off, your forms are really good and 3dimensional, but, the shape on the top of his head looks like a mouth, causing the head look like it's upside down. This would also benefit from more details in things like the gun and sword. Adding seams and panels also add nice detail and will help describe the forms. I hope the sketch helps :)

I find this a bit flat - I find it difficult to nail the values and the lines (in the hatching as well).
