Hey there, im on a bit of a fairy kick myself. - I have some thoughts might be helpful :) So composition wise you could use a grid and use the rule of thirds. For me it goes: anywhere the lines intersect are points of interest. as in 'place focal point here' (you could also crop the canvas to fix). For the story, yes shes pretty (nice work) but how did she get there? like did she get on the 'pixie dust' and wake up tied to the spoon? or is she just messing with the spoon handler? or is this how she wants to go? Shes got a sore ankle thing happening, like how did she get that? Asking questions will help keep the ball rolling. What are her clothes made out of are there mini taylors? or like leaves or cobbled together from scraps? This all helps to find the 'mood' and will later inform your colour choices. Also anatomy her forearm is a bit short. This is a fun piece - I'm looking forward to seeing it coloured up :D keep up the good work.
This painting is interesting! It is my best failure ever. Therefore, I chose not to finish it. I made thumbnails first which led to a pose I liked. It was cute! No hair or clothes OR background. This became the root problem. I should have developed the thumbnail more with a more detailed idea. I only used thumbnails for poses. This was my first mistake, I should have used that time to make a story, an action. I used a soft brush for that phase which felt fine, but after that I didn't know what to do. Once I decided to move forward, I was completely lost. I first thought realistically, then I thought cell shading and anime, then I started randomly sketching, then I added colors. Then I started soft shading, I added colors, then I stopped. I arrived at this: thumbnail -> sketch over thumbnail -> clean line art -> shading -> color. I stopped painting because I feel that it is not appealing. Why is she sitting on a spoon? Why does she have bandages around her foot? Why is she posing for a camera? Where is she and why? ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Since I couldn't answer these questions, I decided to leave the picture unfinished.
