A small collection of resources we highly recommend for any artist of any level.
SKETCHING: THE BASICS
This book by Koos Eissen and Roselien Steur is an absolute must-have!
DRAWING THE HEAD AND HANDS
This book by Andrew Loomis is fantastic for sharpening your portrait and hand drawing skills.
RENDERING IN PEN AND INK
This book by Arthur L. Guptill is one of my all-time favourites. Its in-depth look into rendering with line will vastly improve your understanding of form and how to convey depth using light and shadow.
FRAMED PERSPECTIVE VOL. 2
This series by Marcos Mateu-Mestre is worth its weight in gold. Both volume 1 and 2 are a valuable read. I just prefer volume 2 for its emphasis on characters.
WATTS ATELIER
One of my all-time favourite online schools. It’s a bit more pricey than some other alternatives, but definitely worth your time.
TYLER EDLIN
Tyler is a high profile Environment Artist in the industry of Entertainment. He also provides his own mentorship program that has produced some amazing artists!
LUCIDPIXUL
Taught by my dear friend Adam Duff. Lucidpixul offers that heart-warming guidance and fundamental knowledge many beginners are looking for.
MEDSMAP
Ahmed Aldoori’s amazing digital painting course covering all the basics and in-depth fundamentals of painting portraits.
