Hi hi! Lovely scene you got here! I would advise you to stick with references as much you can in the learning phase. Since we do not initially have a large enough visual collection to make our own backgrounds, we do not want to second-guess our choices while preparing artwork. Thai is quite easy to set up, but we still require a more precise route and systematic approach. Create brief thumbnails of a scene you wish to depict before creating the final artwork. You are free to experiment with close-ups or highly expanded images. After selecting a final, compile references for each component—dog, child, beach—and assemble a strong structure. Tight painting requires a clean technique. It will be simpler to make adjustments later on if every element in the image has its own distinct layer. Regarding the light and shadow placement: it was fairly close, only missing the few spots for the light. Treat each element as its own 3d form in simplified geometric shapes (head is sphere, body is square, arms are cylinders etc.) If the light is somewhat coming from top, we should see the curved planes in side views. Hope it helps!
