Hi hi! I like the vibes in the picture! Turned up pretty great in gouache! I am not the biggest expert in technique but you can mix blocky black shadows with vibrant colors if you wish to imitate traditional cell shading + manga style. It would be beneficial if the image's general structure were improved. Similar to folds, you require strong contraction on figures for it. When bodies are seated, try to look for tension points in the folds and how the figures are wrapped. I would choose very deep hues or black for the darkest areas, where light does not reach at all. Avoid using it everywhere since it will make the image look very artificial. This method allows you to add more values to light and shadows, but it requires some advance planning to prevent confusion or feeling stuck. In this situation, it is mandatory to set a distinct light direction. We will be able to achieve volume and realism in this way. Use a neutral color for the shadows (usually warm for cool light and cold for warm light), arrange the shadows on several levels, and match the character elements with the primary shadow. During the final touches, you can play around with textures on the light side of the drawing. Apply the shadows layer by layer. As long as you maintain a clean procedure, faults can be simply painted over. Blending can be challenging at first, but it is doable with practice. Hope it helps! | Artwod Feedback
