Hi hi! I love Jimbei and the fish race in general! They are pretty cool looking dudes and you represented his mood on point! I would say you are not far from what you want to achieve! Setting up a light source—in this case, the light from the top view—is necessary for a decent render. Position the shadows on multiple levels, align the character elements with the major shadow, and use a neutral hue for the shadows (typically warm for cool light and cold for warm light). You can experiment with textures on the drawing's light side during the finishing touches. When positioning artwork, exercise caution and try not to overdo it to avoid making it noisy for observers. I used the Overlay layer for light and the Multiply layer for shadows. Over flat hues that should not be overly bright or dark, both must be balanced (not too dark or too saturated). For creating very specific scenarios, always help yourself with references. Spotlight light is most intense in where the light is concentrated on one spot while the rest you can keep in shadow (not pure black). That also depends on the intensity of the light. Here is more diffused due to the background you pick but if it was daylight and he is standing outside, it would be much stronger. Hope it helps!
