Hello! We must first choose a light direction before beginning any render. For instance, I decided to place a light source on top. The only planes that are illuminated are those that face the light source; all other planes progressively turn into shadows. Try to imagine forms by using simple geometric shapes ; if this is difficult, sketch the shapes on the side. After that, lighten them with one light source and place the shadows. Make sure you follow the natural curve of each shape. Before settling on final shadow placement, test them out by placing light direction from different positions like both left and right side, top, bottom etc. Incorporate light intensity as a fun exercise! In my example, light is fairly close to the figure so it makes shadows stronger. All of this keep sketchy and loose because we are using it as a template for our drawing. When you finish the sketch with set values, transfer them into your drawing by using a light/neutral multiply layer. Hope it helps!
