Hello hello! Looks nice! I like the design of a little guy, finding it very cute! I think what you got here is already looking good. Its very simplified anatomy due to the approach you took so I would change at all. I am not an expert in pixel art but what I would do here is to simplify values.The rim light is unnecessary because it only helps in situations where we want to make separation from the background (also there is nothing that would cast such light on side). I would set the whole image on two values for each value group (for the light and shadow). That way you can see clearly if additional value in both groups is needed or it will create noise. Along with that, check the artwork in black n white version to have better control over values. Other than that, I have nothing much to write! Good job! I hope it helps! Definitely search for a group of pixel artists in case you still feel stuck with render. I am sure they will provide in-depth feedback on how to approach with pixel render.
