Hi there! Good job on the portrait, I especially like the way you captured the values, you got them down nicely! The main thing i do notice in your drawing is that it seems you mainly drew what you saw in the image, therefore replicating the "lines" you see, not the underlying structure. Because of this, the proportions of your portrait are different from Antonio's facial features and structure. If you wish to improve this understanding of structure and the ability to portray it, I highly reccommend you get into studying form, which gets explained incredibly well in artwod's beginner road, and gets expanded upon in the portrait road. I followed the "pipeline" artwod teaches in said road in my feedback drawing to hopefully give you a clear understanding of my process. For drawing faces, i recommend using what you call the loomis head. If you want the specifics on what this is and how to apply it, i once again highly suggest going through the artwod portrait road. For now, I will break down each step of my process for you here: 1. We will simplify the skull as a sphere, on which we draw lines that determine the orientation of the face as well as the distance between features. I won't get into the nitty gritty of how this works as, once again, the beginner portrait road covers it way more thoroughly than I ever could. That being said, when making a portrait of someone specific or a reference, this is where you pay close attention to their facial proportions. usually the distance between the brows and nose is the same as that between the hairline and the brows, but in Antonio's case, this is a bit shorter. (although this could also just be because he is slightly frowning in the reference image) 2. drawing a simplified skull on top of this guide, to give an idea of the facial structure. once again, pay close reference to the volumes of the facial features of the people you draw. 3. Start adding the features, and give the face structure by manipulating the form. I know this is a maaassive jump from step 2, but once again, after the beginner portrait road it'll all make much more sense ;). Also, remember that Antonio's beard adds additional "volume" to his jaw/chin area. It's good to keep this in mind when drawing people with beards. 4. I roughly colored in his beard and take away the guidelines. As you can see, by having a solid structure and building on top of it, it becomes much easier to get the structure of the face right, and even though it takes a bit of time to draw the structure, it makes drawing the actual features much easier as you have a base structure to work on top of! You did a great job with your drawing! With this process you can bring your next study to the next level! good luck and have fun!
