Really cool illustration, I don’t think it’s too simple. Simplicity can speak a lot louder than having an overly detailed image. I haven’t done much to the image as I didn’t want to spend too much time reworking the image. If your image is looking “flat” it’s usually because there isn’t enough contrast in your values. If the character is too similar in value to the background, then they’ll kind of merge together and the viewer won’t really know where to look. So I made some of the shadows darker and more saturated on the character and I took the color of the orange light and used that to bump up the highlights on the armor. For the character itself I moved their shoulders down a bit. That’s to convey the weight of what they’ve just done. Whether they’re feeling guilt or relief, people tend to sag their shoulders. I also removed the crease under their eye, just to make it more obvious that their eyes are closed. At first glance it looks like their eyes were open and it wasn’t until I zoomed in that I realized you’d as closed. The last thing I want to talk about is the rain effect. Honestly I see what you wanted to do with it but the rain drops were distracting. I removed the little splashes of raindrops. They felt a little unnecessary and there are ways to add that detail that are a little more subtle. For the rain itself I used a technique I’ve seen other artists use. I filled the canvas with small dots of a desaturated yellow (that I pulled from the orange light) and then used the motion blur effect to turn them into streaks. It should still convey that it’s raining without overwhelming your character which should be the focus of the painting. | Artwod Feedback
