Hi there, sorry for the wait! Focussing on getting this base right first is indeed the best thing you can do and it seems to me you're pretty close to it. It seems like in your studies you draw the outer side of the face a little bit too far away compared to where the circle of the cranium is. This makes it look a little bit more flat, which you seem to have noticed, as you pointed out it should look more "wrapped". So stick close to the circle of the cranium and only seperate from it when you have reached the angle the face needs to take. The eye sockets/eye brow ridge are things we add on later.
