Howdy! As you can see on my paintover, I did just a minimal amount of shading, under the nose, under the eyebrows and under and above the chin. And this is the case because your main problem here is not the lack of shadows (since your portrait lacks a clear and strong light source) but something from a much more earlier stage. I am talking about face construction and proportions. There are stages to an art process and shading comes way later, when one can already establish a good drawing as a foundation. My advice to you is to look up the basic head proportions, what a midline is, what facial thirds are, etc. Also find info about Loomis head method and practice a little bit. Your drawings will tranform very fast, i promise! I actually like that you already understand how to do hair effectively meaning that hair is one big shape and not just strands. But your shapes (and lineart) need some work. Don't worry just yet, your job now is to strenghten your fundamentals a little, for now. Great start and good luck C: | Artwod Feedback
