The character looks a bit off because the connection between the head and the body isn't quite right, and the shoulder area isn't fully defined—especially the character's left shoulder, which makes the head-to-body connection feel awkward. Also, keep the shape of the rib cage in mind so you can build the torso more convincingly. The left side looks a bit strange: it's too wide at the top and then transitions into a straight line all the way down to the waist. In my example, you can see how the oval shape of the rib cage is still visible, which makes the pose feel much more believable. I'd recommend starting with a simple construction first, then building the character's details on top of it.
